Mudgeeraba Termite Scare
It was a warm November afternoon and as the CTS Termite & Pest Control team hummed away carrying out pest control and termite treatments all across the Gold Coast. Liz in the office took a call from a lady living interstate who had just purchased a property in Mudgeeraba.
With family living on the Gold Coast she had heard how bad the termites were and knew how vulnerable her home was to attack without a termite barrier in place. As she was going to rent her property for 3-5 years it was important she have a termite barrier and a reliable company to arrange regular pest inspections through her rental agents and tenants. Annual termite inspection are required as part of Termidor's $2 million warranty.
After providing a quote, she remained in touch while she got other quotes.
Another pest company had carried out her pre-purchase pest inspection and while they had found no active termites there was old damage to the fence and 2 trees, which worried us as it meant termites were very close by. The hot, wet weather on the Gold Coast makes conditions ideal for foraging termites, and once they're in your home they can cause up to $1000 worth of damage in a week.
After Christmas we got the go ahead to install the termite barrier. Even though a pest inspection had been done, we always carry out our own inspection, if we find active termites we treat them separately as part of our service.
At the time of our pest inspection, less than 3 months after the pre-purchase pest inspection, we found active termites!!!! They were in a timber garden bed up against the front of the house. As the garden bed was covering the weep holes it gave the termites the perfect place to enter the dwelling without being detected.
We contacted our Client from onsite to let her know what we had found and we removed the garden bed immediately. We then chemically treated the active termites, installed the termite barrier and went back again 10 days later to check the area.
It was very lucky we had been called out to this home and installed the barrier when we did otherwise these termites could have gone undetected for months and caused massive amounts of structural damage!!
