Termites Bundall Nightmare
We were recently called out to a home in Bundall, the Client was pretty sure he found termites as he had had them before and knew what the damage looked like. Whenever we get a call for active termites we send a technician out on the same day as termites can do a lot of structural damage in a really short period of time. Our technician Jacob went out to investigate and found the termites inside the wall tracking in from the reticulation valve box outside the home. A reticulation value box is where pest control companies inject chemical into an existing termite barrier.
Somehow, the termites had breached the existing termite barrier! As we did not do the installation, there are several possible reasons why this could have happened. Some are easy to diagnose and we can find them out by doing a pest inspection and check your meter box to see when the barrier was installed. Other reasons are nearly impossible without knowing the history of the house or digging to expose the current barrier. Poor quality reticulation pipe can be a cause if there has been a break in the pipe the chemical will simply leach out into the ground in areas without going around the full dwelling. Another reason can be poor installation or if renovations or landscaping has been carried out after the installation, this will also interfere with the barrier.
The species of termites we found were Schedorhitoermes which are an aggressive termite and as their behaviour is to multi colonise there can be more nests nearby. Jacob baited directly on the active termites as this was the best way to ensure getting rid of the colony and after discussing the ineffectiveness of the current barrier the Client agreed to install a new barrier was the only way to protect against this happening again
