Worker and soldier termites cannot live without their Queen so as you can imagine she is pretty well-protected and hidden. Two of the most common (and most aggressive) termites in South East Queensland are the Coptotermes and the Schedorhiotermes. They nest under the ground and a Queen can live up to 50 years and produce between 1000 and 3000 larvae a day - that's a lot of termites! An established colony of termites can be in the millions.

Termites are pretty smart and are also very social creatures - they love to network! The Queen will simply instruct the other 3,000,000 or so termites she has in her colony to move to another area of your home in search of food.
The 3 homes the team from CTS Termite and Pest Control went out to this week were standard size homes on the Gold Coast. It takes usually about 1 hour for Jacob, Alex or Woody to do a pest inspection, it took 4 hours to inspect and treat all the active termites inside one of these homes. The damage was evident in just about every room of the house including the garage and upstairs bedrooms.
