Alberton is a locality in Gold Coast. As of 2011 the locality of Alberton has a small population of only 576 people. To the North it is bounded by the Logan River, and to the West, Albert River.

Back in its Aboriginal origins, Alberton used to be known as Wobbomerijee, an amalagam of the Aboriginal words Wobum meaning mud, and Mudtheri means sticky.

The European settlement in Alberton said to have started back in the 1860’s when German immigrants chose to settle in what was eventually known as Alberton. In 1865, a town reserve was established in the southern bank near the junction of the Logan and Albert Rivers.

The Ageston sugar plantation and sugar mill operated from 1866 to 1890’s and was often revered as one of the finest plants in the Moreton District.

In 1869, a Lutheran church was established on Zipfs Road. The area where it was established was known as Elkana, a Hebrew term which means God has created and blessed. The same location was soon called Alberton, a name locals got from Prince Albert, the consort to Queen Victoria. The name Elkana is preserved in Elkana Road.

In 1870, a ferry service was introduced in the locality, a bridge was built in 1876 at Yatala with a German school being established on the same year, a German school was built earlier in the decade beside the church. On 1876 the Alberton Provisional School opened which became the Alberton State School on 1884.  

Alberton may be a rural area, but there economy is standing strong with sugar cane plantations and prawn farms operating in the locality.
