Morayfield, located in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia, is both a town and a suburb. As of the 2021 census, the population of Morayfield was recorded at 24,898 individuals. Situated 44.5 kilometres (27.7 mi) north of Brisbane CBD, the state capital, Morayfield is known for its predominantly residential character, featuring low-set brick homes and some semi-rural acreage. The commercial hub of Morayfield is centred around Morayfield Road, which is home to the Morayfield Shopping Centre. The suburb lies within the Burpengary Creek catchment area and is traversed by the Bruce Highway and Caboolture railway line from south to north.
The history of Morayfield dates back to 1868 when George Raff, a Brisbane resident, purchased land previously owned by the unsuccessful Caboolture Cotton Company. Raff named the area “Moray Field” in honour of his native Morayshire in Scotland. Over time, the name evolved from “Morayfields” to its current form, “Morayfield.”
On August 4, 1873, Caboolture State School, now known as Morayfield State School, was established in the area. The original school building, a heritage-listed site, still stands as a testament to Morayfield’s educational history. It is essential to note that this school should not be confused with the present-day Caboolture State School in Caboolture, formerly known as Caboolture North State School since its inception in 1889.
