Gilston is a locality in Gold Coast that is home to 1449 people as of their 2011 census. Gilston is bounded to the west by the Nerang River.

The settlement in Gilston began in the 1860s, dairies and timber mills were the main industries in Gilston then. A local storekeeper named Mr Bryant gave the location the name Gilston after a village of the same name in England.

In 1881, the Nerang Upper Provisional School which was renamed into Gilston Provisional School, only to be renamed again into Gilston Sate School in 1908. The school was situated in Gilston Road until 1985. To address increasing number of enrolees, a new campus was constructed in Worongary Street. The entire campus was unified in the new location in 1996. Gilston opened its first telephone office in 1923.

After engaged in fundraising since March 1930, the Gilson Hall was finally opened on Friday 16 June 1933 by Thomas Plunkett, junior, Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the Albert. The hall was erected on the site of the old Lutheran church on Gilstone Road and was 60 by 30 feet with a stage and dressing rooms.

Since 2014, Gilston residents have been subjected to one of the largest hoon crisis in Queensland.
